Loves Tide and Tithe

I stare quietly into pale hazel eyes,
And loves price and pricelessness unfold.
Wrapped in a vine of binding ties;
I cannot make out soul from soul.
Love sings sharp, though sometimes dull
And bursts through seams loosened in between,
For threaded steel shall never hull;
It binds us gently and gives with room to breathe.
Though viciousness does sometimes explore
Through tainted, jealous or hasty tongues and
When tenderness comes back to shore
His breath flows back into thy lungs;
For one day in courthouse we did stand,
Eyes for eyes and hands for hands.

Happy Anniversary stink bugs! I had so much fun that week after the wedding in Tahoe. We need to do it again.
Anyway, this poem is so romantic. It makes me think of something that Anne of Green Gables would wander the woods with, quoting and freaking herself out with the romance of it all. Good job!

p.s. I thought you were going to write a poem about Tide, the laundry detergent. Because, I'm deep like that.

Alexis Hallum said...

Ahhhhh!!!!! Tide. You make me laugh JoAnn!
You have inspired me to read that book again...Oh how I love Anne and all her dramatic ways. If I wandered into the dark woods dreaming poetry...with my luck, I would break a leg instead of sprain an ankle.

What a beautiful Anniversary poem - soon it will be our 44th, and I'll come and read it again. The ebb and flow you speak of signifies (to me) the tide of a marriage. A "gentle binding" is best!
