i'd rather

i'd rather receive a dozen pens & pencils than a dozen roses

flowers wither and then decay

but our love is so much stronger

so if you choose

that you must prove

your love to me with things

gather pens and pencils up

over diamond rings

then i'll scrawl you into a psalm

and wrap you up in words

i'll hold you close

and keep you here

in my heart and verse

Joining Emily today for imperfect prose.

I love everything about this - makes me smile. And I'd choose pens, too. And pretty spiral notebooks. :)

I like your "bouquet" and from it comes blossoms from your heart.

um. this is exactly what my husband did for mother's day. he looked at me like he was bananas and said "well. one thing with you being so weird, the pen aisle wasn't as crazy busy like the candy and flower aisle were :) " - - i could not agree with you more!

My inner ear is rejoicing at the song you beat with your words here. It's so happy and romantic. LOVE IT!
